So, it's definitely not 1974 anymore. I haven't heard how sexy chest hair on men is in about 30 years. What do women think of chest hair? What do women think of back hair? That is what we set out to find out in this article. Acomoclitic Laser and Wax Studio participated in some small polls of women to find out and this is what we found:
So let's go back to the 70's and even early 80's, back then we had Magnum P.I. and his unbuttoned shirts, and he was "the man". Magnum had an out of control mustache and a chest sweater that would make a sasquatch green with envy. I can remember the bedroom posters of Magnum, they hung on every young women's bedroom wall and Tom Selleck was the hearthrob of thousands of women. Those days seem to be a thing of the past now. If you take a look at a magazine now, you will see Matthew McConaughey showing off hairless pectorals, with a completely hairless back. The most hair you might cath on Matthew McConaughey is his nicely trimmed 5 O'clock shadow. I guess we can blame Austin Powers and his cohorts for the switch to hairless men. Maybe disco ruined it for men, the butterfly collar with the shirt halfway undone and that medallion nestled deep in a patch of black chest hair. I guess it doesn't matter anylonger because we are here now and body hair is out. So what do women think of your body hair? Most men don't seem to know what women really think. They have to see what the media displays as sexy, but is that women think too. Is the media just being too hard on men and their body hair? From the survey above, taken from 22 women, you can easily see that male body hair is not well received among most women. According to a recent survey of women of varying ages, they were asked what they thought of male body hair. As you might have guessed, the answers were all over the map. Question: Is male body hair attractive? 18-24: “No! We don’t want anything to do with it…” These girls have grown up seeing images of men becoming increasingly hairless. Tom Selleck and Sean Connery are old guys to them. If your girl falls into this age range, start looking into your waxing options. 25-34: “In general, no, but it depends on the location and thickness…” These girls are a little older and probably remember at least a Magnum P.I. re-run and may have had a very early crush on Bond. If you’ve got some chest fuzz, you’ve got a better shot at acceptance here. Depending on how much and where it is, these girls could be cool with your body hair, but it’s probably a 50-50 split. 35-44: “It can be attractive within reason…” These are the women who remember the sex appeal of those open Hawaiian shirts. They may actually be more attracted to you with some hair on your chest. 45+: “It depends on the guy…” Finally we get to an age group that responds reasonably! If it works for a guy, then they’re down with it. Of course, you’ll need a second opinion to know if you’re leaning more towards 007 or Planet of the Apes… The Eye of the Beholder What it really comes down to is that, even with these basic guidelines, it’s an individual thing almost as subjective as a preference for a certain hair color. Ask your girl what she thinks. It’s better to have it out in the open than to worry about it. If you have body hair and she likes it, celebrate it. If she’s less than thrilled, there are lots of hair removal options. Knowing is better than worrying. So just ask. |
